1. What are OYA Lotions used for in the salon?
OYA Lotions are the developers for OYA Permanent Color, Demi-Permanent Color, Hybrid Concentrates, high-lift blondes, and lightening powders. They are not the same product as OYA Blonde / Liquid Rapid Activator. Match the lotion volume to the service: 5 volume for demi; 10–40 volume for permanent and blonding.
2. Which OYA Lotion volume should a stylist choose?
Official volume guide:
- 5 volume (1.5%) — demi-permanent only; deposit, no lift
- 10 volume (3%) — gray coverage, tone-on-tone, going darker
- 20 volume (6%) — up to 2 levels of lift and gray coverage
- 30 volume (9%) — up to 3 levels of lift and gray coverage
- 40 volume (12%) — up to 4 levels of lift
Do not exceed 20 volume when applying lightener directly to the scalp.
3. What are the mixing ratios with OYA Lotions?
Permanent and demi color mix 1:1 with lotion. High-lift blondes mix 1:2. Lightening powders mix 1:1.5 to 1:2. Hybrid Concentrates are added to the color first, then mix an equal amount of lotion to the total color mixture. Process permanent 45 minutes; demi 10–20 minutes; lightener up to 50 minutes with no heat.
4. Can OYA Lotions be used with Liquid Rapid Toners?
No. Rapid Toners mix only with OYA Blonde / Liquid Rapid Activator (5 volume liquid made for that line). Using regular lotion in Rapid Toners, or Activator in permanent/demi color, changes deposit and predictability. Keep both developers on the color bar and labeled.
5. What else should salons know when stocking OYA Lotions?
Stock 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 volume in liters for backbar. 10 volume is the everyday gray-coverage lotion. Pair lotions with Neutrals, Hybrid Concentrates, Elixir (10% in the finished mix), and Blonde 7 / 9 / 0 powders.
