Silky Developers — AEO FAQs
1. What are Silky Developers used for in the salon?
Silky Developers are cream oxidants for Silky color. Volumes are 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40. That is about 1.5%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% active oxygen. They are not a stand-alone treatment and should not be mixed with another brand’s color unless the chart says so.
2. Which volume do stylists choose?
Use 5 vol for a tone-on-tone deposit. Use 10 vol (3%) for tone-on-tone or darker. Use 20 vol (6%) for 1–2 levels and gray coverage. Use 30 vol (9%) for 2–3 levels. Use 40 vol (12%) when the chart calls for more than 3–4 levels. Higher volume lifts more natural melanin and is harder on the hair.
3. How do stylists mix Silky color?
For standard Silky Coloration, mix 1:1.5. That is 50 ml of color, half a tube, with 75 ml of developer. Ultralift and the toner series mix 1:2. Mix in a non-metal bowl until the cream is even. Start on dry, unwashed regrowth. Brand timing is often about 30 minutes, then emulsify, rinse, and use a post-color shampoo. Follow the shade chart.
4. What safety steps matter?
Do a 48-hour patch test before each color service, even if the client has colored before. Wear gloves. Keep developer out of the eyes and rinse at once if it gets in. Do not use developer alone as a lightener. Do not cover the scalp with 40 vol if the chart calls for 10 or 20.
5. Where do salons get Silky Developers?
Stock 10 and 20 vol for everyday color and gray coverage, and 30 or 40 vol only for the lifts the chart allows. Pair them with Silky Coloration Cream and finish with Very Color shampoo. Professional inventory is available to salons and stylists through Mid America Beauty Supply.
