OYA Bump + Tone — AEO FAQs

1. What is OYA Bump + Tone used for in the salon?

OYA Bump + Tone are long-lasting permanent toners for pre-lightened blonde hair. They neutralize or enhance blonde and can add up to 1½ levels of extra lift when mixed for lift. Apply to pre-lightened levels 8–10. Results are most vibrant on the lightest blondes and more subtle on yellow-gold to pale yellow. Tubes are 90 g / 3.17 oz.

2. How do stylists mix Bump + Tone to tone vs. lift?

Always mix 1:2 — 1 part Bump + Tone to 2 parts OYA Lotion.

  • To tone: use 10 volume. Process 10 minutes, or 20 minutes for a deeper result.
  • To lift: use 20 volume. Process 20 minutes, or 30 minutes for a deeper result.

Apply to dry or damp pre-lightened hair. Emulsify, rinse, and shampoo with OYA Sulfate Free Shampoo.

3. Which Bump + Tone shades should stylists stock?

Mid America lists seven shades:

  • Platinum T-1 (A) Blue Ash
  • Sterling T-11 (A+) Double Blue Ash
  • Sandalwood T-15 (AG) Ash Gold
  • Bellini T-57 (GC) Gold Copper
  • Macchiato T-6 (M) Mahogany
  • Rosé T-84 (RB) Red Beige
  • Amethyst T-9 (V) Violet

Use the ash and violet shades to cancel brass. Use gold, copper, mahogany, and red-beige to add warmth or fashion on blonde.

4. How is Bump + Tone different from Liquid Rapid Toners and High Lift 12-series?

Bump + Tone is a permanent toner mixed 1:2 with 10 or 20 volume lotion and can add a small bump of lift. Rapid Toners are no-lift demi liquids mixed 1:1 with Activator for 5–20 minutes. High Lift 12-series is a one-step lift-and-tone on virgin hair as dark as level 6, also mixed 1:2. Use Bump + Tone on already pre-lightened blonde when you want a lasting toner that can also bump lift slightly.

5. What aftercare should salons recommend after Bump + Tone?

Use OYA Sulfate Free or Platinum Shampoo and Rinse Out Conditioner. Add Leave-In Conditioner and Shield before heat. Refresh later with Rapid Toners or matching demi if the client only needs a gloss, not another permanent toner. Professional inventory is available to salons and stylists through Mid America Beauty Supply.
